LEARN TO RING THE BELLS
Meet people, have fun & get fit!
The bells have arrived back at Holy Trinity, Great Paxton Church from Taylors in Loughborough. In a week long process with lots of help from volunteers, the bells were moved from the floor of the church and winched into the tower. With the now six bells installed safely in the tower, they were rung for the first time this week as a trial run. There is no access into the belfry however, the new CCTV system will soon be installed in the church and then everyone will be able to see what happens in the tower as the bells are being rung.
We are almost at the end of this wonderful project, with thanks to village residents, donors and Heritage Lottery Fund.
Do take a look at the gallery for more fantastic photos of the process.

Work is still continuing in the tower at Great Paxton Church to get ready for the return of the bells. The wooden frames have been treated with preservative and work prevention treatment. Just the metalwork to be treated before the end of the week. Next week (w/c 11th June) the metal frame for the new bell is to be fitted. We are looking forward to welcoming the five original bells and one new bell back to the church at the end of this month.
The existing 5 Great Paxton Church Bells rang out for the final time on the evening of Thursday 5 April 2018 before the beginning of the removal the following week (w/c 9 April 2018). The bells were removed last week and taken to Taylor's of Loughborough. The tenor bell will be recast and a new treble bell cast to make a peal of 6 bells. Do take a look at the short video of the bells being rung from the tower floor and also a short tour round the grounds of the church whilst the bells rang out.
April 12th 2018.
The five historic bells from Great Paxton belfry left the church today conveyed on a very large truck bound for Loughborough in Leicestershire. Apologies for not being able to say when the bells were going as they were on the church floor overnight and thus a security risk.
Thanks to all the volunteers who have helped Taylor’s engineer Andrew Ogden since Monday. The project went all the more smoothly with their skills and strength. The bells are due back in July with an additional new treble.

The Great Paxton Bell Project has begun!
Here is what one of the volunteers has just written about Day One!
"Had a good day. We had three BIG men turn up. They were brilliant, and because of them I think we have gained a day. They really worked hard. Tomorrow we might start taking the bells down. It was a great atmosphere all day. The weather was not very nice to us and by the end of the day we were all feeling cold. it was a long day"
Huge thanks to the team of volunteers from the village and the local ringing team who worked alongside bell hanger Andrew Ogden from Taylor's Bell Foundry.
